The History of Merickel Lumber |
| The depression of the 1920's and 30's was actually the reason for the beginning of the Merickel Lumber Mills. Harry Arthur Merickel, age 39 grew tired of the banking and insurance game in Wadena; so in 1928, with his wife and four children, he went West to California to seek his fortune. The family returned to Wadena in 1933. Harry had an old friend Rich Stuntebeck, then owner of the Ford garage, for financial backing. The two men formed a partnership and a new business, "Merickel Lumber Mills". |

| Many things have changed for Merickel Lumber in the last 70 years, they have expanded to be one of the largest lumber yards in central Minnesota. The one thing that has not changed is the emphasis they place on their customer relationships. Merickel Lumber is still a family owned and operated business. |
